ENGAGEMENT
Clybourne Park
As part of our initiative to develop audiences in the North West, said&done undertook a number of initiatives within the community to coincide with both Clybourne Park and UK Black History Month. We collaborated with Writing on the Wall to deliver a free workshop to young people that explored the themes of the play and A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, which was the inspiration for Clybourne Park. We delivered a similar workshop to students at RARE Studios.
Writing on the Wall is a dynamic, Liverpool-based community organisation that coordinates projects and events that celebrate writing in all its forms. They work with a broad and inclusive definition of writing that embraces literature, creative writing, journalism and non-fiction, poetry, songwriting, and storytelling. Writing on the Wall works with local, national and international writers whose work provokes controversy and debate. They work with all of Liverpool’s communities to promote and celebrate individual and collective creativity.
When the Rain Stops Falling
In 2013, we undertook a number of activities with two focus groups: RARE Studios and Merseycare, NHS Trust.
RARE Studios provides quality, affordable, safe and professional performing arts training in Merseyside for young people interested in progression onto further or higher education or employment in the industry. RARE aims to provide good quality training that is affordable and based on ability, not ability to pay and recognises the importance of nurturing young talent, particularly those young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Merseycare recognises the positive impact that cultural engagement has in supporting recovery and wellbeing, and through collaborations with, amongst others, LIPA, Tate Liverpool, Liverpool Philharmonic, FACT, provides artist and practitioner led projects for people using Trust mental health services. Projects are delivered in health settings and, with the aim of widening participation, people are also encouraged and supported to access programme activities taking place in the galleries, museums and cultural settings.

Mersey Care Dementia Practitioner Jill Pendleton and Lead Mental Health Practitioner Liz Redwood joined the cast of When the Rain Stops Falling for a post show discussion on dementia and other mental health issues.

Samantha Meisner leads a session with young people in preparartion for their visit to see Clybourne Park.
